Call it signs of the times but former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator for Dowa East constituency Frank Kuseni Chidzaye is now a gospel musician.
Chidzaye performed along with his wife Miriam during Allan Chirwa's DVD launch at Sheaffer Marquee hall in Lilongwe a fortnight ago.
The ex-MP backed his wife skillfully as she performed the popular song 'Yesu Ndiwabwino', which also happens to be a favourite among Miriam's fans.
Speaking with The Weekend Times after the performance, the former politician could not hide his passion for gospel music.
"I am into gospel music to support my wife Miriam who is one of the dedicated gospel musicians in the country. I enjoy singing along with her even at home because we are a music family," said Chidzaye.
Chidzaye said he has a vast music background having once sung in a church choir when he was young.
"Those who know my background know that I am a music guy having once sung in several choirs back home. But my talent has been re-activated this time around because of my wife," said Chidzaye who hails from Ching'amba Village, T/A Chiwere in Dowa.
He added that he is the force behind her wife's latest CD and DVD Yesu Ndiwabwino which will be officially launched on April 1 at Sheaffer Marquee in Lilongwe.
"We worked tirelessly together with my wife to complete her second album. I was not only providing her with spiritual and financial support but also perfecting some of the songs," said Chidzaye who lost his seat to Bauleni Mana in the 2009 elections.
Miriam cherished the support she gets from her husband, describing him as a powerful man.
"I thank God for this man because he is not only a husband but also a music accomplice who spices up my live performances,' said Miriam.
Recorded and produced at Llohay Sound Control by Lloyd Phiri except 'Ndinu Woyera' by Lulu at Eclipse Studios and 'Haleluya Wabwadwa' by Kumbukani Kachimanga at Mwai K studio, Miriam's 12-track album features 'Yesu Ndiwabwino', 'Ndinu Woyera', 'Moyo Wanga', 'Andisamala', 'Mbuye Ndamva' featuring Francis Phiri of The Marvelous Deeds, 'Hananiya Ndi Safira', 'Mtayeni Satana', 'Lokoma Dziko', and 'The Love of Jesus'.
Commenting on the launch of her CD and DVD, Miriam said she was keeping her fingers crossed and looking for a successful concert which will bring together artists like Lloyd Phiri, Allan Chirwa, Grace Chinga, The Marvelous Deeds and many others as supporting artists.
