Fanuel Nkhono, chairperson for one of Malawi's leading football clubs, Escom United says the club is happy with its caretaker coaches as the team marched through three consecutive matches without a loss.
The caretaker coaches Kondwani Gawani, Jacob Ngwira and Noel Mkandawire have won against Mafco 2-0 before drawing 2-2 against Epac last Sunday and have finished the first round of the league on position 13 in the 15 team TNM Super league.
In the first leg of the Standard Bank Cup Escom drew 1-1 against Mighty Wanderers at Kalulu Stadium last Saturday to set up an exciting encounter in the second leg to be played in Balaka tomorrow.
Nkhono said the caretaker coaches have brought fresh energy to the team and it has now moved from the bottom of the log table and was hopeful the good form will be reflected when they meet Nomads in the second leg of the Standard Bank cup.
"We are happy so far with what they have achieved although it is too early to judge them. We hope this good form will be reflected when we meet Nomads in the second leg of the Standard Bank Cup inBalaka," he said.
Nkhono said the team played well against Nomads and Epac last week and was hopeful they would beat Nomads tomorrow.
"In the first leg we scored first and led until second half when Nomads got a penalty to equalise. Against Epac we were also ahead before they equalised. So the team is now sharp and can score goals what we need is just to defend the goals. I am sure that we will win against Nomads because we go into the match a point ahead of them since we scored an away goal," he said.
Escom suspended seasoned coach Charles Manda and his backroom assistants Aubrey Nankhuni and MacDonald Mtetemera after a run of poor results that saw the team win only one game, drew five and lost six.
However, many people believe the team is struggling because it off-loaded too many experienced players.
The match against Nomads promises to be exciting as Nomads are also enjoying good form after firing Franco Ndawa and replacing him with caretaker coaches Felix Fosko and Albert Mpinganjira who have taken the team to a third place finish in the first round of the Super League.
