Sensational Mibawa Band's female lead vocalist Eunice Kadzuwa, whose captivating voice has taken the fancy of many music lovers in Blan¬tyre, is alleged to have been suspended over allegations of drunkenness.
However, Mibawa Café's man¬ager Leme Phiri said she has now returned and everything is back to normal.
"That is an internal matter and if you came here you will find her performing just like it was before," he said.
Asked to confirm whether she was suspended over alcohol, Leme refused to comment.
"Icannot comment on that because it is an internal matter but what Ican say is that she is back and singing better than ever," he said.
When asked for comment on her suspension Eunice said it was not true that she had been suspended saying she only went away for few days to see her ailing mother.
"Ionly missed on Wednesday and Friday but Iperformed on Satur¬day and Sunday so what kind of suspension is that? And if you must know, Iwent to see my mother who suffered stroke because there is no one else to provide for her. You don't know what Iam going through at the moment.
Asked whether she was drunk or not, Kadzuwa said she could not answer the question.
"Icannot answer that question because you have already made a conclusion so it will make no difference what Iam going to say. Iknow it is like that with you news¬paper men, when someone is head¬ing for the top you do everything to take that person down so you can write what you want," she said.
A band member who spoke anony¬mously told The Weekend Times that Kadzuwa got drunk and she failed to sing and instead disturbed others until she was dragged off the stage.
However Mibawa Café proprietor John Nthakomwa said the matter is being blown out of proportion by people who have ill will for the young musician.
"The truth is that she had family matters to attend to which was af¬fecting her performances. You can imagine she is just 22 years old but she shoulders huge responsibility as she takes care of her mother.
I realised that she needed some time to attend to family matters because it was affecting her performance so Igave her some days off," he said.
Mthakomwa warned that there were some people who envy the young lady for what she has achieved.
"She is a blossoming talent and there are some people who want to sabotage her career. It would be unfortunate to see the press jumping on such negative stories because she might get affected with such reports," he said.
