10 register for one-day tourney

At least 10 teams have registered to compete in the K100,000 one day Southern Region Volleyball League tournament slated for Blantyre Youth Centre tomorrow.

SRVL chairperson Pacharo Ngwira said they were happy with the response of the teams that have expressed interest to participate in the event.

"We have been on break for some time," Ngwira said. "Most teams seem excited to return to the court."

Some of the teams expected to compete are Cobbe Artillery, Changalume, Catholic University, Chanco, Poly Troopers, VTC Thunders, College of Medicine, Lujeri, Naming'omba, Mulanje Mission and Zingwangwa Spikers.

Ngwira said the tournament was important for the Southern Region after staying idle for more than a year.

The league in Southern Region was not held because of the sponsors DSPV change in strategic direction which saw the company shifting its headquarters from Blantyre to Lilongwe.

"Teams have been longing for league action. The tournament would help the teams prepare for the forthcoming events," he said

Ngwira thanked some committee members that have donated the sponsorship so that the event should be held.

"This is a self sponsored tournament. It is an initiative from the committee members in their quest to make the sport vibrant in the region," he said.

The committee is also planning to use the same event to plan for the forthcoming events.

"We need to strategise how we will handle forthcoming events," he said.
