Super League champions Silver Strikers have promised total war against Blue Eagles tomorrow when the two sides meet at Nankhaka.

The Bankers have so far suffered two consecutive losses to the police side with the first being the 0-2 loss in the second round of last season and then 0-1 during the launch of the Standard Bank Cup a fortnight ago

Silver are also likely to be seeking redemption in tomorrow's game following their recent string of poor results. The side suffered defeats against Complex Madrid, Big Bullets and Blantyre United.

Tomorrow's game is also more interesting because both sides would be looking to amend their respective defeats, which eventually earned them the boot in the Presidential Cup last weekend.

As for Silver, the nose diving of the team's performance invited the wrath of management, which eventually summoned the players on Tuesday, warning them to pull up their socks or risk the chop.

One of Silver's coaches Hellings Mwakasungula said on Wednesday they cannot continue going on like this and promised to come back into the race.

He said they were equally concerned with the sudden change of the performance and hinted that they will do everything possible to ensure that they return to winning ways.

"We are hopeful that tomorrow will be our turning point from our recent poor performance," Mwakasangula said.

"We are set to rediscover the performance which we started with in the league." But he said the slip up in form might be a blessing in disguise because it would inspire the players to work harder as the league progresses. He was hopeful that this could not come at a better time than tomorrow.

However, he was quick to point out that they don't expect it to be all rosy knowing that the cops would be at home.

He also said the fact that it is a derby makes the whole mission be a tall order.

The Bankers have so far been dislodged from the top position as they are perched on position three with 12 points from five games.

His counterpart Derklerk Msakakuona said they would not take advantage of Silver's recent poor performance because they are aware that the Bankers would be looking to restore their lost glory.

He said they would be looking forward to continue from their 1-0 triumph over the Bankers during the Standard Bank launch.

"We are ready to ensure that come tomorrow we collect the maximum points so that we edge closer to the summit of the league," he said.

The cops are currently on position nine with five points from four games.

Meanwhile, following their 1-0 victory in enemy territory when they beat Moyale 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium, last season's runners-up Escom United have started their climb up from the bottom of the table, which is a sure sign that they will aim for a shot at the title.

So far, Escom are nine points behind leaders Mighty Wanderers, who lead with 14 points and have played one game ahead of the last season's runners-up.

Escom United play host to débutantes Kamuzu Barracks at Balaka Stadium tomorrow while Mighty Wanderers meet Lilongwe-based Mafco at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.

Wanderers displaced Silver from the top after beating visiting Mzimba-based Kabwafu last week. They are separated by two points and the Nomads will be hoping that they beat Kabwafu and at the same time Blue Eagles should beat the Bankers tomorrow at Nankhaka

The race is very narrow at the top five--leaders Wanderers have 14 points, two ahead of second placed Silver and thirdplaced Civo, three ahead of 4th-placed Red Lions and four ahead of 5th-placed Bullets and 6th placed Tigers. It seems it will still be a tight race because any mistake of dropping points will see several teams being pushed up or down.

Escom started the campaign by perching on 10th position in the first week before moving to 12th a week later and maintained it in the third week.

In the following week, after drawing 0-0 with Bvumbwe Research, they were pushed to position 14 and after losing 1-3 to Blantyre United a fortnight ago they were pushed further to the last position.

But a 1-0 win over Moyale saw them move one place up and this can give them all the reasons to work towards improving their status as one of the giants in the topflight league.

Silver also started last season just last week's resultslike the way Escom have done but they managed to go on and win the title.

Meanwhile, debutantes Kabwafu from Mzimba and Lilongwe-based Kamuzu Barracks, who started their shot for the title on a positive note, continue to be pushed slowly down the ladder. Kamuzu Barracks were 7th last week while Kabwafu were 8th but they have now moved 8th and 9th respectively.

Kabwafu started the race with a 1-2 loss away to Mafco, beat Epac 2-0 and Moyale 2-1 before drawing with Kamuzu Barracks and losing last week to amass seven points from four games.

Kamuzu Barracks have played seven games, winning two games — 2-0 against Blantyre United but lost to Blue Eagles 1-2, Epac 0-1, Silver 1-4 and 1-1 against Civo United to gain seven points.

It's usually this scenario for most newly promoted teams, who start on a good note but eventually lose steam due to stiff competition and long travel.
