Fifa inspects Goal Project 3

SOUTH Africa based Fifa envoy Ashford Mamelodi on Tuesday inspected the Goal Project 3 in Mzuzu and left satisfied with the progress of the project.

Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda, who accompanied Mamelodi to Mzuzu, said the project was on the right track.

"The building is now on roofing level. As Fam, we are happy with the progress and so is Fifa," Nyirenda said.

The general secretary said they were confident that the project would not miss the deadline.

"If all goes well, the project will be completed by August," he said.

"We might have completed earlier but the project was delayed by two weeks due to issues of compensation."

The owner of the land on which Goal Project 3 is built, village headman Bilamusika, demanded compensation for his subjects before the project could take off.

The 4.150 hectares land worth K6 million on which the project will be built on was donated to Fam by the Malawi Government last year.

But Fam paid K9.5 million as compensation for the people who were moved from the land with funds from the Fifa Financial Assistance Programme.

The project will see the construction of Technical Centre comprising offices and two playing fields estimated at USD575,000 (about K108 million).

Once the Goal Project 3 is complete, it will house Technical Centre, Regional and District Committees offices.
