Zahara arrives


Zahara2It was not on her  'Loliwe,'(train) which happens to be the title track of her album.But Zahara, the songstress who has taken African music by storm, arrived at Chileka Airport in Blantyre on Friday  and has connected to Lilongwe in an Air Malawi flight. Zahara, real name Bulelwa Mtutukane, will perform alongside Wambali Mkandawire at Bingu Conference Centre on Saturday.

Zahara is touted as the combination of South African legendary Musician Mirriam Makeba and Tracy Chapman.

She is in the country courtesy of Standard Bank through an event known as Joy of Jazz.

Zahara, dressed in a jean trouser and a pink top accompanied by seven members namely keyboardist Bongani, Bass player Mano, Drummer Tino, Lead guitarist Godfree, backing vocalists Nomcebo and Pinky plus manager Zakes missed her direct flight to Lilongwe and instead boarded an Air Malawi plane later to Chileka Airport before proceeding to Lilongwe.

She said she was excited to be here and that she can't wait to get down to the stage.

"I am happy to be here and I am assuring Malawians that I will not disappoint them," said Zahara, who revealed that her name means blossoming flower and that she is a blossoming flower.

The singer said it was her first time to be in Malawi and asked, why she accepted to come down here for the function, Zahara said:

"I love Africa and so this is why I decided to come."

She said she was looking forward to share the stage with Wambali.
