Artists to celebrate Fete de la Musique

The Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) in conjunction with the Republic of France and local artists will on Saturday join forces to celebrate Fete de la Musique at The Warehouse in Blantyre.

Fête de la Musique is a live music celebration which highlights the diversity of musical practices in all the musical genres. It is the world's largest international live music event which was developed by the French Government in 1982 and is held in over 450 cities across the globe on 21 June every year. In Malawi the event will be held this Saturday at The Warehouse.

BAF president Thomas Chibambo said the concert will be free of charge, hence they are looking forward to a lot of people to partake in this festival.

"The aim of the event is to make music everywhere, to celebrate music and to expose as many people to music as possible," Chibambo said.

Lucius Banda and Skeffa Chimoto are some of the local artists that are expected to add sparkle to the event come Saturday.

Chibambo said Fête de la Musique now in its fifth year will provide a platform for all people who love making music: whether professional musicians who have been playing for years or an aspiring performer who is looking for a chance to try out their skills.

Internationally, Fête de la Musique is presented across the world within the frame¬work of an international charter.
